The Historic Shaw Art Fair is extremely proud to announce that award-winning film photographer Bill Lemke will be in attendance again year. Bill has regularly participated in art fairs for over 40 years now, including the the Shaw Art Fair for the last 10. The artist shared, “I have always enjoyed the community feeling of this art fair; the neighborhood setting as well as the tremendous support from the local community.”
Because Bill is a photographer, he consistently travels all over the world to seek inspiration. When he is traveling inside the U.S., Bill often commutes by van. This way, he is able to set up camp wherever he sees fit. He searches for beauty as he camps- often in the late evening light and the early morning light. Bill highly values nature, and he often enjoys capturing its beauty through his film photography. “My ultimate goal is to inspire viewers to develop a deep appreciation for nature and a desire to preserve and protect our environment.” There is no doubt that he certainly inspires within his viewers an awe and respect for nature through his work.
Though advancements in technology progress through the years, Bill remains faithful to his film camera. He agrees that digital cameras make photography easy and accessible for all, but his passion still lies with film. “Traditional black and white film photography has a richness and a depth that cannot be imitated by a digital camera and printer.” Though Bill has worked with this medium for so many years, he remains fascinated with the art as there is always room to grow, progress and refine his skills.
We are excited to welcome Bill to the 2017 fair in just three weeks! We will see you and your film photography at the fair, Bill.
