In November 2017, Alderman Stephen Conway resigned from his position to accept an appointment as the Assessor for the City of St. Louis. This left his seat open on the Board of Aldermen. To fill his seat for the remainder of the term, a special election for the 8th Ward is to be held Tuesday, February 13, 2018.
To provide an opportunity for 8th Ward residents to hear from the two candidates for Alderman — Annie Rice and Paul Fehler — in person, the neighborhood associations for Shaw, Tower Grove East, and Southwest Garden hosted a forum. The event was held on Monday, February 5 on the Missouri School for the Blind campus.
Stephanie Herbers, President of the Shaw Neighborhood Improvement Association, and Jen Brown, President of the Tower Grove East Neighborhood Association, moderated the event. The format was equal time Q&A for the candidates. This included a set of pre-planned questions, a lightning round, and a few audience questions submitted during the event.
