The Word at Shaw is a multicultural, multigenerational congregation of The United Methodist Church. As a new church plant our congregation was able to start from scratch and create something we could not find anywhere else. We set out to build a community church that allows the neighborhood access to the facility other than on Sunday morning. We wanted to be a part of a diverse and socially active community where we could join in and help our neighbors. We wanted to build a church community that would reflect the heavenly community God has created for eternity. (Revelations 7:9)

Day Care Centers

Cornerstone Center For Early Learning
3901 Russell Blvd.
St. Louis, MO 63110
314-865-5244

6:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Monday through Friday

Cornerstone endeavors to prepare students for a lifetime of positive social interaction and learning. Our Constructivist curriculum was developed by Missouri’s Department of Elementary and Secondary Education; this teaching approach encourages reflection, communication, critical thinking, problem solving, and creativity. Based on the research of Jean Piaget and his successors, Constructivist education responds to emerging data from neuroscience investigations into brain development. According to Constructivist research, children learn best from active involvement with all aspects of the world. From their earliest days at Cornerstone, students explore the beginnings of reading, writing, math, art and science as they play in water, pound on playdough, draw and paint, sing and dance, or cook and bake. Through “hands on/minds on” learning, they build the early foundations of autonomous behavior, taking responsibility for their learning, and accepting the natural consequences of their decisions.

Infant/Toddler Program: 6 weeks to 3 years
Preschool Program: 3 to 6 years

Cornerstone currently has full-day openings for 2, 3, 4, and 5 year-olds beginning in August. There are also Head Start openings for income-eligible families of children ages 3, 4, and 5. Please note: Parents must be working and/or enrolled in school full time (30 hours/week). For further information, please contact Tricia Gooden or Tracey Dorenbusch at 314-865-5244, or walk in at 3901 Russell.
